Moving teeth into a better position
Orthodontic treatment moves teeth into a better position. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, and a bite that meets properly puts less strain on the teeth and on the jaw joint.
Treatment can be fixed braces, removable clear aligners, or an expander that widens a narrow upper jaw in a growing child. Which one fits depends on what needs moving, not on preference alone.

What actually happens at the visit
This is the part most people want to know before they book, so here it is in order.
The consultation
The first appointment is a consultation. We take scans and X-rays, look at the bite, and set out the options and the likely length of treatment.
Fitting braces
Fitting braces takes about an hour and does not need freezing.
Coming back
You come back every few weeks, either for an adjustment or to collect the next set of aligners.
The few days after an adjustment
Teeth feel tender for two or three days after each adjustment. Soft food helps.
Retainers at the end
When treatment finishes you get retainers. Wearing them is what keeps the result.
Before treatment starts
We go through the options with you and what each one costs, and you decide what to go ahead with. Nothing is done to a tooth before you have said yes, and you can have the plan in writing.
Good to know
- Most treatment runs somewhere between twelve and twenty four months. The estimate comes after the assessment, not before it.
- Aligners only work while they are in. They need to be worn for most of the day and night, which suits some people and not others.
- Braces make brushing harder, so cleanings during treatment matter more than usual, not less.
- If a bracket comes loose or a wire is poking, call us. It is usually a short appointment, and it is not an emergency unless you are in real pain.
Who this is for
Children from around age seven for a first assessment, teenagers, and adults of any age, including seniors who want a bite that is easier to keep clean.

Common questions
How long does treatment take?
Most cases run between twelve and twenty four months. We give you a range after the assessment, once we have seen the scans.
Are aligners as effective as braces?
For mild and moderate crowding they can do the same job. Complex bite problems are usually handled with fixed braces. The assessment tells us which applies to you.
Is my child old enough?
Bring them for an assessment around age seven. That is not when treatment starts, it is when we can see how the jaw and the adult teeth are developing.
Can adults have orthodontic treatment?
Yes. Age is not a barrier. What matters is the health of the gums and the bone holding the teeth, and we check that first.
