Rebuilding a tooth, and filling a gap
When a tooth is too damaged for a filling, a crown covers it and holds it together. When a tooth is gone, a bridge, a denture or an implant fills the gap so you can chew and speak normally again.
Which option suits you depends on how many teeth are missing, the health of the teeth and gums around the gap, and how much bone there is to work with. We go through the choices with you before anything starts.

What actually happens at the visit
This is the part most people want to know before they book, so here it is in order.
The assessment
The first appointment is an assessment. We look, we take images, and we talk through the options. Nothing is prepared that day.
A crown or a bridge
A crown or a bridge normally takes two visits, with a temporary one in place in between.
An implant
Implants are staged over months, because the bone needs time to grow around the implant before the tooth is attached.
Dentures
Dentures take several short appointments for impressions, a try in, and fitting adjustments.
The plan, in writing
You can ask for a written summary of the plan and the order of the steps before you decide anything.
Before treatment starts
We go through the options with you and what each one costs, and you decide what to go ahead with. Nothing is done to a tooth before you have said yes, and you can have the plan in writing.
Good to know
- A new denture almost always needs adjusting in the first few weeks. Sore spots are common and are usually settled in a short appointment.
- Implant treatment needs enough bone to hold the implant. If there is not enough, a graft is discussed first, which adds healing time.
- Crowns, bridges and implants all still need brushing, flossing and regular checkups. They can fail at the gum line if they are not kept clean.
- Dentures you already own should be checked periodically, because the jaw changes shape over time and the fit changes with it.

Common questions
How long does a crown last?
That varies with the material, the bite and how well it is kept clean. We look at your restorations at every exam and tell you when one is wearing out.
Is an implant better than a bridge?
Neither one suits every case. An implant leaves the neighbouring teeth alone. A bridge is quicker and involves no surgery. We explain which options apply to your mouth and why.
Do dentures need special care?
Yes. Clean them daily and store them in water or a denture solution overnight so they keep their shape. Bring them to your checkups so we can look at the fit.
Will people be able to tell?
Crowns, bridges and dentures are shade matched to the teeth around them. We check the shade with you in daylight before the work is finished.
